Abstract

This project is situated in professional development for science teachers in linguistically superdiverse high school classrooms (>20 languages). Our professional development program is rooted in student engagement in collective sensemaking that is multimodal and multilingual and recognizing students’ epistemic authority. In the research side of this project, we think about the needs of emergent multilingual students in these classrooms and the resources and practices science teachers can utilize to support emergent multilingual learners.
