Welcome to the Ryu Research Group website!

We are an interdisciplinary research group headed by Dr. Minjung Ryu. We are affiliated with both the UIC Department of Chemistry and the Learning Sciences Research Institute. We focus on issues around diversity, equity and inclusion in various STEM and chemistry learning environments in both formal and informal education settings. K-16 classrooms and informal learning settings are becoming more diverse, representing multiple different races, languages, and cultures of learners. The ultimate goal of our research is to understand the learning experiences of historically minoritized learners and design learning environments that support personally meaningful STEM learning experiences for these students. We draw on various qualitative research methodologies, including video ethnography, multimodal discourse analysis, and interviews.
